Bassist John Jowitt has left Arena one year short of their 20th anniversary. John joined Arena soon after they formed in 1995, after leaving another successful and well known band, namely IQ.
Arena, whose members are Clive Nolan, Mick Pointer, Paul Manzi and John Mitchell, have not named a replacement yet but have released this statement:
Due to time pressure and numerous commitments, we are sad to announce we will be parting ways with John. This is a mutual decision, and we’d like to wish John good luck with his future projects, and say thanks again for all his work with Arena.
The band are in the process of recording a concept album called The Unquiet Sky, loosely based on an MR James horror story. Their last album was the excellent The Seventh Degree of Separation, released in 2009. They are also planning an extensive tour for 2015.
