The Enid Announce Trilogy's End with Dust

The Enid have announced the release of new album Dust, the third and final chapter of their trilogy started in 2010 with Journey’s End and followed by Invicta in 2012. Dust, The Enid’s 14th studio record, is out on 1st April on the band’s Operation Seraphim label, closely following 2015’s The Bridge.
Dust represents The Enid at their very best, as they distance themselves from all preconceptions associated with the early instrumental phase of their career.

The current Dust Tour is an eccentric, ambitious audio-visual production directed by TV illusionist Simon Drake (Secret Cabaret), who previously worked with Kate Bush on her Tour of Life. The show is an acknowledgement to the band’s fan club The Enidi; members will receive 10% discount on tickets and access to an exclusive intimate after-show reception on the last date of the tour, at London Cadogan Hall on 2nd April.
Says The Enid founder Robert John Godfrey:

“Dust is the last in the Journey’s End trilogy, telling the story of the band’s generational voyage from the past into the . Needless to say this has been very much an evolutionary tale with many surprises along the way. This is by far the best of these albums.”

The Enid Ready First Light

The Enid will release a new CD on 6th October, titled First Light.

This intermediate release will include 2 tracks previewing brand new material from the Invicta sequel (name still secret) and Robert John Godfrey and Joe Payne's new album, The Bridge.

Extra tracks include new interpretations of current material as performed during the summer 2014 shows, including the vocal arrangement of Mockingbird and the new and improved version of Dark Hydraulic with vocoder from Max Read and vocals from Joe Payne.

There's also a recording of Mayday Galliard recorded live at The Met in Bury featuring Max Read and Joe Payne on EWIs (Electronic Wind Instruments).

The CD will be packaged in digipack feature stunning artwork by Dominic Tofield.

Bonus: People who pre-order First Light by 21st September will also be credited in the sleeve notes.

New Album and Video by Nick Magnus

Composer, keyboard player and producer Nick Magnus (ex-The Enid, ex-Steve Hackett Band) will release his newest CD on April 28th. Titled n'monix is "a collection of songs and music in the finest tradition of his past work." The album also features collaborations with his old band mates Steve Hackett and Pete Hicks, and Andy Neve, Rob Townsend, Tim Bowness (No-Man, Henry Fool, Memories of Machines), Kate Faber, Tony Patterson (ReGenesis) and James Reeves.

Meanwhile, Nick is also is also putting the finishing touches on the Northlands album project by Tony Patterson and Brendan Eyre. Amongst the featured guests are Steve and John Hackett, Doug (ReGenesis) and Carrie Melbourne, Nigel Appleton (ReGenesis), Tim Esau (IQ).

Robert John Godfrey Diagnosed with Alzheimer's

Sad news on The Enid front. Leader and main composer, Robert John Godfrey, has written on Facebook that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. This news comes after The Enid had completed a spring tour, with guest Enochian Theory, in support of their wonderful CD Invicta, the second in a planned trilogy, the first of which was Journeys End. Moreover, Robert John Godfrey had just released his second solo album, titled The Art of Melody, to fantastic reviews.

In his own words:

Dear all,
 
I wanted to let you know that my diagnosis of Alzheimer’s is confirmed and what this is going to mean for the future of The Enid.
 
I suppose I had “known” that I was ill for maybe a year. I began to notice changes with the way I perceived my surroundings and with my day to day activities. I felt there was something wrong and I suspected it might be dementia (or worse).
 
My diagnosis has... come as no surprise. It is just my very short term memory that is different and my ability to recall the names of people I know well. I still have all my long term memories – I probably will have right up to the end. My intellect still seems as good as ever, though that will not last. I have not noticed any changes with regard to my creative abilities and so far nothing has changed with regard to playing the piano.

I am now seeking a successor to take my place in The Enid. I probably have two or three years in which to find him and get him settled. He will need to have a good piano technique with a background in classical/romantic music rather than jazz; a knowledge of music technology; a talent for finding a good tune and a thorough understanding of harmony. Above all he will need to be generous in spirit and willing to collaborate with those who have different but nevertheless just as valuable abilities as his own.

I have had a great life doing nothing but music – I have wonderful friends within the band and I feel very much loved and appreciated – I lost any fear of death many years ago and the story of my life will come full circle as indeed it must. A symphony with a silence at either end.
