Greg Lake Releases Live CD

Purple Pyramid Records will be releasing legendary Greg Lake's live album from the Hammersmith Odeon in London, November 5, 1981, featuring guitar hero Gary Moore on CD & vinyl! The concert recording features ELP and King Crimson classic tracks such as Lucky Man, Karn Evil 9, 21st Century Schizoid Man and In the Court of the Crimson King, as well as songs from his critically acclaimed first solo album from 1981. As a founding member of King Crimson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Greg Lake has been a major force in music for over 40 years. He has long been considered a legendary voice and musical powerhouse whose impact changed the landscape of rock and roll. Many simply refer to him as “The Voice”.

The Greg Lake Band made its live debut on one of the biggest stages available to it, the annual Reading Festival in England in August 1981. Much of the set was new to the audience – Greg's first solo album would not be released for another month. But the band received a wild reception regardless, and there were enough old favorites on display to ensure the fans remained happy…including the show opener Fanfare for the Common Man, truly one of the most effective showstoppers ever to have opened a concert.

That last date on the tour is where this disc was recorded, in front of 2,000 fans who now had every note of Greg's new album memorized.

Tracks:
Medley: Fanfare for the Common Man / Karn Evil 9
Nuclear Attack
The Lie
Retribution Drive

Steven Wilson to Release Vinyl Only Compilation

Steven Wilson, who has, in the past, been reticent to anthologize his music and to even put his face on his album covers, has now given in to both.

Transience will be an introduction to Wilson's catalogue of song-based tracks from 2003 to 2015, a nice way to introduce a friend to SW music without the more “difficult” stuff getting in the way. It is expected for a September 4th 2015 release in the UK, and October 2nd 2015 for the Rest of the World.

Transience contains over 1 hour of music. Pressed as a 3 sided LP in a lavish gatefold sleeve, the fourth vinyl side features an etching of the original handwritten lyric sketches for Happy Returns.

As well as containing a few especially created edits, the album contains a new studio recording of Lazarus, based on his 2015 live performances of the song.

Transience track list:
Side 1:
1. Transience (Single Version) (3.10)
2. Harmony Korine (5.07)
3. Postcard (4.27)
4. Significant Other (4.31)
5. Insurgentes (3.54)

Side 2:
1. The Pin Drop (5.01)
2. Happy Returns (Edit) (5.11)
3. Deform to Form a Star (Edit) (5.53)
4. Thank You (4.39)

2. Hand. Cannot. Erase. (4.13)
3. Lazarus (2015 Recording) (3.57)

Styx and the Mission to Pluto

Left to right: Lawrence Gowan, Tommy Shaw, New Horizons’ Mark Showalter, and Todd Sucherman
Credits: NASA/Joel Kowsky

OK, so this might not be a "progressive rock" news item per se, but Styx do fall in the "Prog Related" category, and this IS and interesting story. (And I'm a science geek).

Three members of the present incarnation of the rock band Styx met with the New Horizon mission scientists on July 1st in Maryland. why is this significant, you ask? Because they met with the scientist who discovered Pluto's 5th moon, the one who named it Styx.

Learn more about this meeting here (http://www.nasa.gov/nh/styx-meets-styx), and learn more about the mission to Pluto, with New Horizon arriving at its closest approach to this distant planet on July 14th.

Nad Sylvan Signs to InsideOut

InsideOutMusic are pleased to welcome Steve Hackett and Agents of Mercy vocalist Nad Sylvan to their roster, for his forthcoming solo album which is due out in October.

Nad comments:
Finally, after 40 years of fighting for it, I get a first class record deal.

Nad has most recently been seen performing alongside the legendary Steve Hackett as part of his Genesis Revisited show, continuing his stint into the latter part of this year.

Nad adds:
In a little less than four years, I was snatched up by two iconic guitarists, namely Roine Stolt and then Steve Hackett. That must mean something to the world, because it sure means an awful lot to me.

Nad who released two solo albums under his own name, teamed up with fellow swede Bonamici to release an album under the name Unifaun, to great acclaim. In 2009 he formed Agents of Mercy with Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings, Transatlantic) in 2009, and have released three albums to date.
