We are coming close to the end of 2014, and what a year it has been. Progressive Rock has once again bettered itself, with new releases coming from every part of the world.
40 years ago, 1974 brought us Genesis' The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, King Crimson's Red, Yes' Relayer, Gentle Giant's Power and the Glory as well as many other classics from The Strawbs, Peter Hammill, Magma, PFM, Focus, Gong, etc. All classic albums, and still enjoyed today.
So what did 2014 bring? And are there albums in 2014 that we will cherish as much as those from 1974? In the coming weeks I will post my Top 20 albums of 2014. And if you feel so inclined, leave me your own list of best albums, here in the comments section.
Have a great Christmas holiday!

Swedish progressive rockers Beardfish have been hard at work on the follow-up to 2013's The Void, and now they are pleased to reveal that their brand new eighth studio album, +4626-COMFORTZONE will be released in North America on the 27th of January 2015.
The band had this to say about the new album:
"The comfort zone is the invisible protective suit of negative thinking, almost like an entity of itself. It's been with you since birth: your parents and your teachers and your friends and your neighbours all teaching you the way the world works - this is how it is and will be and there's nothing you can do about it. The negative vibe is like a voice living inside of you, a companion through life. With time you start to like that voice and the place it takes you to: your comfort zone. I'm so sick and tired of it and I want to address it and maybe in that way start to work my way out of it"
The full track-listing for the album is as follows:
1. The One Inside, Part 1: Noise in the Background
2. Hold On
3. Comfort Zone
4. Can You See Me Now
6. The One Inside ,Part 2: My Companion Throughout Life
7. Daughter Whore
8. Ode to the Rock 'N' Roller
9. If We Must Be Apart (A Love Story Continued)
10. The One Inside, Part 3: Relief
Look out for more information in the coming weeks!

Pink Floyd have just released a video for Louder Than Words, the only song among all the instrumentals off of their new release The Endless River.
The album itself has received mixed reviews, and my take on it will be up shortly. Suffice to say that I find it is closer in spirit to older Floyd, from Wish You Were Here or Meddle.
Here is the video. Enjoy!

Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon, Star One, Guilt Machine) & Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering, Devin Townsend Project) have joined forces for new band The Gentle Storm, and they have now revealed the cover artwork for their debut album The Diary, which is due out early next year.
Arjen had this to say:
"I loved the front cover of the last Stream of Passion album, so I tracked down the cover artist, Alexandra V. Bach. I sent her some samples of the The Gentle Storm music, and explained the album concept. She made a moodboard that captured the feel of the story and the music. We then gave her the go-ahead to design the cover. She did an amazing job that exceeded our expectations: Alexandra's cover art represents The Gentle Storm perfectly!"Having originally worked together back in 1998 on Ayreon's album Into The Electric Castle, and reconvening again for the seventh Ayreon album 01011001, The Gentle Storm sees the duo collaborate for a full double-album that will see the light of day next year. Anneke will also take the music on the road in 2015, backed by a band of Dutch musicians; however Arjen himself will not take part.
Arjen Lucassen recently picked up the Virtuoso award at this year's Progressive Music Awards, in front of an audience that included Peter Gabriel & Rick Wakeman amongst other progressive rock legends. Last year saw the release of the latest album from his Ayreon project entitled The Theory Of Everything which featured guest appearances from the aforementioned Wakeman as well as Steve Hackett and Keith Emerson.
Anneke Van Giersbergen has also had an extremely busy 12 months following the release of her latest solo album Drive, playing live across the world with her solo band, Devin Townsend Project, and with Daniel Cavanagh of Anathema. She will also be playing a special anniversary show with former band The Gathering in November as well has having taken part in Devin Townsend's new album Z².

Esoteric Antenna is pleased to announce the release of Signal to Noise, the new studio album by twice Grammy nominated Pink Floyd engineer Andy Jackson.
Signal to Noise is a fine, modern, progressive work, which draws on Andy Jackson’s exemplary work as an engineer and producer. Besides being an allusion to Andy’s sound engineering background, the title refers to many of the lyrical themes of the album. Andy explains: “The album reflects on the sorting of what is important in life from the humdrum of everyday existence, and is in itself an analogy for the process of the creation of the album”.
Andy Jackson began his career at Utopia Studios in London, training under James Guthrie, a relationship that continues to this day with the duo being co-pilots of Pink Floyd’s sound. (on albums such as “The Final Cut”, “A Momentary Lapse of Reason”, “The Division Bell”, “Pulse”, Roger Waters’ “The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking”, David Gilmour’s “About Face”, “On An Island”, “Live in Gdansk”). He is also engineer and a co-producer of the soon-to-be-released Pink Floyd album, The Endless River.
Along side his work with Pink Floyd and wider work as an engineer, he has recorded three albums, recorded with friends, as a musician in his own right: On the Surface, Obvious and Mythical Burrowing Animals.
The album will be released worldwide on November 3rd, 2014.
1. The Boy in the Forest
2. One More Push
3. Invisible Colours
4. Spray Paint
5. Herman at the Fountain
6. It All Came Crashing Down

A new live CD capturing a set of King Crimson songs performed by District 97 and former King Crimson lead singer John Wetton has been released on Primary Purpose via Cherry Red Records.
One More Red Night: Live in Chicago includes three songs from the iconic landmark album Red; which inspired many musicians including Kurt Cobain. This CD also captures several other well-known songs from the three King Crimson studio albums John Wetton played and sang on, plus their earlier hit 21st Century Schizoid Man. This is the first release of this recording and features many tracks which are now rarely heard live.

Their shows are an exciting pleasure to attend, and I am proud to work, and be associated with them.” - John Wetton, Annapolis, October 1,2014.District 97's drummer and One More Red Night producer, Jonathan Schang, says “The first Crimson song I ever played live with John was Lament. To hear 'that voice' coming from right in front of me, seemingly made only stronger by the passage of time, was an experience I shall never forget. Getting to know John more closely, both as a musician and a human being, is an honor and a privilege. I'm thrilled that our joint interpretations of his iconic work with King Crimson are now available for all to enjoy.”
