Steve Rothery Announces Live in Rome CD/DVD

Legendary Marillion guitarist and founding member Steve Rothery has revealed that, in advance of his much anticipated new solo album The Ghosts of Pripyat, he will release a brand new CD/DVD set titled Live in Rome. Released through InsideOutMusic on the 25th August 2014, this stunning show sees Rothery & band premiering some of the material from his forthcoming solo album.

Steve had this to say about the set:
The Rome concert was only the second time my band had performed together but they are some of the finest musicians I’ve ever worked with and the concert was an unforgettable experience. The incredible interest I’m getting for the studio album from all round the world makes this an important record of the progression of the project.

The Steve Rothery band Live in Rome CD/DVD captures a great evening of live music as Marillion guitarist and founder member Steve Rothery and his superb band premiers some of the tracks from Steve’s forthcoming solo album The Ghosts of Pripyat (released on September 22nd) and also play various classic Marillion songs with inspired performances from several guest vocalists.

The Ghosts of Pripyat album was financed by an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign which reached its fifteen thousand pound target in the first 24 hours and went on to raise nearly sixty thousand pounds. At one time it was the second most popular music project on Kickstarter in the world!

The studio album will feature guest appearances by Steve Hackett, Don Airey and other name musicians and Steve will be touring around the world in support of it from October 2014. To get an idea of what the new songs will sound like, visit www.steverothery.com to listen to new track White Pass performed live in Plovdiv.

Jethro Tull’s famous concept album Thick as a Brick was originally released in 1972 and featured one continuous track spread across two sides of an LP telling the story of a young boy called Gerald Bostock.

Following this release Ian Anderson took both albums on the road to perform the complete Bostock saga and this concert from the tour was filmed in Iceland. The show combines music, video and mime to bring Gerald’s tale to life as never before and create the definitive presentation of the complete Thick as a Brick.

Aeon Zen Announces New Guitarist

Aeon Zen are excited to announce the introduction of a new band member into their ranks: Alistair Bell. Alistair takes over the lead guitar position from Matt Shepherd, who has left the band on good terms after making the decision to focus on his family life.

Alistair Bell comments:
"Hi guys, my name's Alistair Bell and I'm the new lead guitarist in Aeon Zen.
I've been extremely busy writing solos for the upcoming record and as a part of this video, here's a sneak peak as what to expect.
I'm very excited and pleased to be joining Aeon Zen. I can't wait to meet the fans, and also can't wait to start playing gigs and festivals. The new material is significantly heavier than any of the previous albums, it's fantastic. So we'll hopefully see you out on the road!"

Aeon Zen are currently hard at work on their next album, due for release later this year. Stay tuned.

Watch Alistair's introduction video here:

Meanwhile, you can see Aeon Zen live, headlining the Sunday night lineup on the Jack Daniels stage at the Resonance Festival in Balham, England. Many other worthy prog and metal bands will be present during this 4 day festival.

They will also be playing at Tech-Fest, another 4 day festival, in mid-July.

The Seventh Wave May Be Centerpiece of Kate Bush Shows

It looks like side two of The Hounds of Love, Kate Bush's most honoured album, is to be the centerpiece of her residency at London's Hammersmith Apollo.

Kate Bush spent three days in a floatation tank to film part of a video that will be presented during The Seventh Wave suite, a series of songs that fill what used to be called "side 2" of The Hounds of Love album. The sequenced filmed, the rescue of a woman caught in stormy seas, will be shown during the song Hello Earth.

She recently said: "It's about a woman who's lost at sea, but is rescued in the end. Months ago I thought that, as part of the show centres around the musical piece, it would hopefully make a dramatic shot."

Kate Bush will be at the famous Hammersmith Apollo for a series of 22 sold-out shows, her first in 35 years,  on August 26, 27, 29, and 30, as well as on September 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 16, 17, 19, 20, 23, 24, 26, 27, 30, and October 1.

Some shows, if not all will be recorded and filmed for a future DVD release.

Landmarq Release First Ever Anthology

As they approach their 25th anniversary year in 2015, UK Prog-rockers Landmarq will be releasing their first ever anthology – a compilation of some of the best of the band's work from 1991 to the present - Origins: A Landmarq Anthology 1991-2014.

Since it's formation in London in 1990, London-based prog-rock band Landmarq has so far released nine albums, two of which have been recorded live at various concerts in the UK and Europe and a third live CD taken from the DVD Turbulence – Live In Poland.

Devin Townsend Invites You to Sing on Z²

Devin Townsend has been hard at work on the new record for the past few months, getting it ready to welcome Ziltoid The Omniscient back this autumn. Much like Devin did with the ‘Lucky Animals’ video from Epicloud, he is now inviting fans to leave their stamp on the forthcoming album by asking them to submit their vocals for a selection of songs and take their spot in what he has dubbed ‘The Universal Choir’!

For full details on how you can take part and even a sneak peek at 3 songs from the new record, head over to The Universal Choir website and find out more : http://universalchoir.insideoutmusic.com/

Devin had this to say about this exciting project :
« Hey all, Ziltoid 2 is upon us ! I’m deep in the recording of this double album, and as part of the theme, Ziltoid the alien joins forces with the humans… and what better way to express that than to invite you all to sing along ?
The ‘Universal Choir’ is a platform in which vocal parts are explained, and then provides you a way to upload your singing contributions that we will edit together into one, big choir ! The parts are a little tricky but perfection is not required, just enthusiasm. Feel free to overdub yourself, get a bunch of friends together or just yell along.
The bigger, the better.
Send it back and we will then assemble the ‘Universal Choir’ which will actually be part of the new recording. It should be fun ! (Or a total chaotic mess) but let’s try either way ! The website (which works best if it’s not on a mobile device), explains all the parts, with demonstrations and backing tracks. The hope is that a lot of people will upload themselves singing the parts, and then we assemble it and ad dit to the record. Come sing on Ziltoid’s album, and have a great time ! »
The deadline for submissions is June 25th  2014, so get singing now !

Anathema Launches New Videos for New Album Distant Satellites

Anathema return in June with Distant Satellites, their brand new studio album.

Due to be released on 6th June in Germany & Sweden, and 9th June for the rest of the world via Kscope, Distant Satellites is the highly anticipated follow up to 2012’s Weather Systems, recorded at Cederberg Studios in Oslo, with producer Christer-AndrĂ© Cederberg.

The band released a statement on their new album:
Distant Satellites is the culmination of everything Anathema been working up to so far in our musical path. It contains almost every conceivable element of the heartbeat of Anathema music that it is possible to have.
There is beauty, intensity, drama, quietude, and extra musical dimensions that the band have previously only hinted at. All built on the song writing chemistry of Daniel, John and Vincent ~ and the haunting voice of Lee Douglas.
Produced and mixed once again by our very own Christer-AndrĂ© Cederberg (Weather Systems, Universal) and with some songs also mixed by the unassailable Steven Wilson, It’s a special and unique release for the band.
Anathema hopes the fans get as much joy from listening to and feeling the music as we did in creating it.”
The first single from Distant Satellites is The Lost Song, Part 3. They have released this video:
