Spock's Beard Celebrates 20 Years with Best Of

Legendary Californian progressive-rockers Spock’s Beard are set to release The First Twenty Years collection on the 20th November 2015. Arriving as a special 2CD & DVD package, it includes a selection of the best tracks from their entire career, as well as a brand new 19-minute long track titled Falling for Forever that features every member of Spock’s Beard past and present performing, including Neal Morse (who also wrote the track), Nick D’Virgilio & current vocalist Ted Leonard. All the tracks have also been re-mastered by long-term collaborator Rich Mouser, and the DVD portion of the release will feature old, live and archival footage from the band’s impressive 20+ year career.

Dave Meros talked about the album:
"We were adamant about not wanting to just release a bunch of our earlier material in a new package, especially to loyal fans who probably own most, if not all of our albums already. With that in mind, Neal came up with the new epic Falling for Forever which clocks in at almost 20 minutes and was written specifically to include all current and past members of the band. Luckily, everyone’s schedule lined up to be able to record it and even better, Rich Mouser was available to record and mix it as well as remaster all of the earlier songs. Add to that a DVD with a lot of previously unseen video footage from the early days of the band and we think we have a package our fans will really get into."

Neal Morse had this to say about the release:
"As we were kicking around the idea of a Spock's Beard Best Of', the idea of having some kind of an additional track came up. I felt, as always, like it would be more exciting to do something new than to rehash something we had already done. Then one morning I got inspired and wrote the music that would become Falling for Forever. It was a lot of fun writing for the Spock's gang including Ted and Nick's voices… I definitely had them all in my mind… and I think the end result is really, really cool. Al is killing it on guitar, Dave's bass tone will take the paint off your walls, Ryo is ripping on the keys as usual, and both Jimmy and Nick trade off drum solos toward the end of the song! Ted sings the choruses, Nick sings the middle section, and I sing the verses. It's truly a team effort. The SB fans are going to love it!"

The First Twenty Years showcases just how important Spock’s Beard have been to progressive rock since their formation in 1992, and how consistently brilliant they remain to this day.

Spock's Beard New Album Release Date Announced

Legendary progressive-rockers Spock's Beard are pleased to announce that their brand new 12th studio album The Oblivion Particle is set for release on the August 21st, 2015, and you can view the artwork for it here:

Tracklist:
1. Tides of Time (7:45)
2. Minion (6:53)
3. Hell's Not Enough (6:23)
4. Bennett Built a Time Machine (6:52)
5. Get Out While You Can (4:55)
6. A Better Way to Fly (8:57)
7. The Center Line (7:05)
8. To Be Free Again (10:24)
9. Disappear (6:36)

According to bassist Dave Meros, it's not a matter of how much the new album recalls past Spock's material, but how much it differs. "I think the opening track Tides of Time is classic Spock's in terms of arrangement and style, but everything else is fairly different. That said, the whole album is still within the parameters of what people expect to hear from us."

Spock's Beard's forthcoming new studio album The Oblivion Particle is the follow-up to 2013's Brief Nocturnes and Dreamless Sleep. The album finds the band answering the needs of their creations by utilizing the considerable versatility of each member. In addition to Ted Leonard's soaring vocals and Dave Meros' distinctive bass, Alan Morse adds autoharp, banjolele, electric sitar and mandolin to his array of instruments, drummer Jimmy Keegan takes over lead vocals on Bennett Built a Time Machine and Ryo expands his arsenal of keyboard sounds throughout the album. In addition, virtuoso Kansas violinist David Ragsdale lends his touch to the album's majestic closer, Disappear

As with the previous album Brief Nocturnes and Dreamless Sleep, The Oblivion Particle was recorded at The Mouse House and produced by Rich Mouser, Alan Morse and John Boegehold, a band collaborator of many years.

Haken Tour of North America

Highly-regarded proggers Haken will be visiting North American shores for ten dates in the spring, including a headlining appearance at the 12th annual Rites of Spring Festival (aka ROSfest) in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Supporting the band on most dates is Next to None, the band featuring Max Portnoy, son of prog drummer extraordinaire Mike Portnoy.  InsideOut label mates Spock's Beard are on the bill for the dates in Quebec City and Montreal.

Haken guitarist Charlie Griffiths had this to say about their imminent visit:
"One of our biggest ambitions since the beginnings of the band has been to tour the USA. For it to actually be happening is an amazing feeling. We honestly can't wait to get over there and play our music.
We've put together a great set list covering the whole Haken discography and I really think they're going to love it. For a couple of the Canadian shows we're going to be sharing the stage with Spock's Beard, which is crazy because we've been fans of theirs for years."
Tour dates are as follows:
4/25/15 - Token Lounge - Detroit MI (with Next to None)
4/26/15 - Reggie's - Chicago IL (with Next to None)
4/27/15 - TBC - Toronto ON (with Next to None)
4/28/15 - Imperial - Quebec City QC (with Spock's Beard)

Haken released their third album, The Mountain, on InsideOut in 2013 to great acclaim. In late 2014 they dusted off and recorded three early songs for the Restoration EP. Their fourth full-length album is due on InsideOut worldwide later in 2015. Stay tuned.

Haken to Tour North America

In conjunction with their appearance at RoSfest on May 2nd, Haken are excited to announce some additional dates in North America and Canada.

If you are reading this and thinking, "Why aren't they coming to my city!?", remember, it isn't that simple. If these shows are a success, the chances are the promoter will want to book them for more in the future, so if you can make a road trip, they'd really, really appreciate it!

Haken released the critically acclaimed The Mountain in 2013 and recently released an EP called Restoration.

And contrary to Magma's limited North American Tour, Haken is coming to Montreal. Ticketing info is coming soon.
