Riverside commented as follows about the upcoming release:
"We had never been in favor of releasing our albums in 5.1 until we recorded LFTM. It's our best sounding release and we thought it would be an interesting experience to hear it in a new version. And so the thoughts have materialized, Bruce Soord has done a brilliant job and I'm fairly sure you're going to like the new sound of LFTM."

As last communicated, Riverside's founding member and guitarist Piotr GrudziƄski tragically and unexpectedly passed away of natural causes on February 21st, 2016.

Rivertside recently issued the following comprehensive update in regards to their activities:
"In our statement we wrote that we had decided to cancel all concerts confirmed for this year and that hasn't changed, Riverside won't play any gigs this year. But we are going ahead with our other plans for 2016.
Many months ago, before Piotr died, we made a plan to release one of our albums in 5.1 in the early summer of 2016 and a compilation of our instrumental tracks in the autumn of 2016. We also have individual plans and guest appearances with other musicians. Our biography has been in the making for over two years and it will be published towards the end of this year - we just didn't expect that it would contain an additional chapter and that its character would change.
We've always been like a family, we have stuck together and always taken care of that bond both on and off the stage. We have also said many times that we have the best fans in the whole world. Our band wouldn't exist without you, without your commitment and all the emotional links that have been created between us over the years. Your reactions and support we have received from you have surpassed our most daring expectations. We'd like to thank you for that from the bottom of our hearts."

In other news, UK's Prog Magazine has announced that Riverside are nominated in two categories for this year's Progressive Music Awards. Their song "Towards the Blue Horizon" is nominated in the "Anthem" category and Riverside are nominated in the "Band/Artist Of The Year" category.

The awards are held on September 1st, 2016 and further details as well as voting options can be found here: www.progmagazine.com/awards

Steven Wilson and Steve Hackett Announce Box Set

Steve Hackett's first 6 albums, those originally released on the famous Charisma label have now been remixed by Steven Wilson with the help of Mark Powell, and are set to be released as 14 CD box set.

Universal are releasing Premonitions: The Charisma Years 1975 - 1983. It will include Steve's first six albums, four of which have been redone in surround sound by Steven Wilson. It will also include live recordings, such as the whole Oxford show over two CDs, 1981 Reading show, 1979 Drury Lane show, as well as a 1983 BBC session.

Since the multi tracks for two of the early Steve Hackett records could not be located, Steven Wilson created a surround sound up-mix, which he says is very immersive and worthwhile.

Premonitions is set to be released at the end of 2015 or beginning 2016. Amazon UK announces it for October 16, while Steven Wilson said that it might be in January 2016.

Word has not come out yet about a possible release as single albums outside of the box set.

Roger Waters' Amused to Death Gets 5.1 Treatment

Roger Waters' unblinking look at this entertainment-obsessed society, Amused to Death, is being re-released as a remixed and remastered CD, 2xLP, as well as a BluRay with 5.1 Surround sound.

As relevant today as it was when it first came out in 1992, if not more so, Amused to Death addresses issues that have only grown in complexity and urgency over the past two decades.

As Waters says: "In 2015, television is just one option in an endless array of distractions available to us anytime, anywhere, courtesy of our laptops, tablets and smartphones. With eyes glued to our screens, the dilemmas and injustices of the real world can easily recede from view."

Watch Roger Waters speak about the new version:

The art has been updated for 2015 by Sean Evans, the creative director of Waters’ 2010-2013 The Wall Live tour and movie.

A Passion Play Remixed by Steven Wilson Pre-Orders

In his continuing quest to remix the classic albums of progdom, Steven Wilson remixed (stereo and 5.1) Jethro Tull's A Passion Play, following his own remix of their Thick as a Brick, as well as Yes, King Crimson, and Emerson Lake and Palmer remixes of early albums. When did he find the time, given his busy schedule? Well, the man is a workaholic, and his passion for the music shows in these carefully remixed albums.

A Passion Play (An Extended Performance) features new Steven Wilson mixes of the album, alongside Steven Wilson mixes of the infamous Chateau Disaster recordings that preceded it. Packaged with an 80 page book detailing the album, the band’s 1973 tour and the Chateau recordings, A Passion Play will be a a glorious way to celebrate a one of a kind release.

Amused to Death Gets the 5.1 Treatment

Yet another reissue to get the 5.1 Surround Sound treatment is Roger Waters' Amused to Death. Originally released in 1992, this album is considered the best of his solo efforts.

The reissue will be released as a SACD, which unfortunately is not as common as bluRay, on September 23. There will also be an vinyl version. The SACD will be available as an import in North America. You can already pre-order it on Amazon. I really do hope they do a DVD or bluRay audio version, as SACD has not really caught on in the Americas.

Engineer/producer James Guthrie has created a new stereo mix as well as the new 5.1 surround mix. The SACD will contain both, but the vinyl is being cut from the original tape masters so the new stereo mix cannot be used for the vinyl pressing.

Genesis Albums to Be Released on Blu-Ray

In 2007 and 2008, all Genesis albums were released as CD/DVD sets. The CDs contained remastered songs and the DVDs had the whole album in 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS Surround Sound, plus added visual bonuses (interviews, etc.).
Some of the titles are becoming unavailable, and others were only available with the box sets. But this year Universal will rerelease all Genesis albums on the Pure Audio Blu-ray format. Each Blu-ray will contain the music only, there are no visual extras.

Pure Audio Blu-ray is a normal Blu-ray, so it can be played on all Blu-ray players. Nevertheless, it can be played as a CD, which means you do not have to use your television to enjoy the disc or browse through menus before you can start the music.

The first release will be Selling England by the Pound.
